How to read it
Each session keeps fixed hours in its own city - London runs 08:00 to 17:00 London time whatever the season. What moves is where those hours land in your day, and they move twice a year on each side of every daylight saving change. The weeks in March and October when only one side has switched are when hand-kept session tables go quietly wrong; this clock derives everything from the timezone database instead.
The overlaps are where the volume is. London and New York sharing four hours is the single busiest stretch of the day, and Sydney with Tokyo carries the early Asian session. Between the New York close and the Sydney open, spreads widen and little happens - worth knowing before leaving orders working overnight.
The convention used
Sessions here are the cash-market business hours convention: Sydney and Tokyo 09:00-17:00, London 08:00-17:00, New York 08:00-17:00, each in local time, weekends closed. Other publications draw the lines slightly differently - what matters is that any convention is stated, and that daylight saving is handled per city rather than assumed.
