The chart that never closes
the continuous chart, crypto edition
A crypto chart is honest about trades - no splices, real prints - and ambiguous about everything the candle needs a close to define: the daily boundary is a chosen time zone, the price is a chosen venue and base, and the 24/7 series has no natural units of a 'day'. Levels are real where volume was real; the chart's structure is conventional where a close would have supplied it.
The equity track found honest levels; the commodities track found splice ghosts. Crypto sits between in an unfamiliar way: its prints are real, but the chart's timeframes are conventions all the way down.
What is honest
A coin's price series on one venue has no roll and no splice - the equity inheritance: prices that printed, at levels where volume actually crossed. Auction anchors are absent (there are no auctions), but high-volume nodes still mark where large size changed hands, and those levels carry genuine memory on the venue that printed them. The honest core of the chart is as trustworthy as equities'.
What is conventional
- The daily boundary: no close means the 'day' is a chosen midnight - two charts of the same coin can show different daily candles, different daily highs, different patterns; every daily statistic inherits the choice.
- The venue and base: the chart is one venue's book in one denomination - a different venue or base draws a different chart, diverging by the peg wander and the venue gap of module 1.
- The weekend candle: a weekend daily candle blends the thinnest liquidity of the week into a normal-looking bar - the reading trap module 2's tide lesson warned of, hiding in the chart's uniform grid.
Reading it honestly
Trust levels where volume was real, on the venue you trade, in your base currency - and treat every timeframe boundary as a convention to be aware of, not a fact to lean on. A level from a high-volume node is memory; a 'daily' pattern is partly an artefact of the chosen midnight; and a weekend bar is a thin-book construction wearing a full-book costume. The chart is the platform's most honest about price and least honest about time - the exact inverse of the commodities splice, and read with the inverse caution.
