Lot size converter

One position size, four ways of writing it. FX platforms mix lots, mini lots, micro lots and raw units freely, and sizing mistakes live in the gaps.

Standard lots0.50
Mini lots5.00
Micro lots50.00
Units50,000

What the number means

A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency. A mini lot is a tenth of that, a micro lot a hundredth. Position size calculators tend to answer in units; broker tickets ask for lots; and a platform set to the wrong default multiplies your intended size by ten.

These conventions cover FX. Metals use their own contract sizes - 100 ounces per gold lot, 5,000 per silver - which is why the other calculators here carry contract size per instrument rather than assuming this table.

Worked example

Half a standard lot, written four ways.

  • 0.50 standard lots
  • 5 mini lots
  • 50 micro lots
  • 50,000 units of the base currency

The unit test suite pins these exact figures.
