Crypto position size calculator
Crypto has no lots - size is however many units the maths allows. This works straight from entry and stop prices, in whatever asset you name.
What the number means
The logic is identical to FX position sizing - risk works backwards into size - but the packaging differs. There is no contract size and no pip: the stop distance is a price difference, and the answer comes out in units of the asset, however fractional.
Crypto's wide stops are the trap. A stop 3% away allows a position only a third the size of a stop 1% away at the same risk - and volatile pairs need wide stops. When the calculated size looks disappointingly small, that is the volatility being priced honestly.
Worked example
A $10,000 account risks 1% on BTC, entering at $60,000 with the stop at $58,000.
- Cash at risk: $10,000 × 1% = $100.00
- Stop distance: $60,000 − $58,000 = $2,000
- Size: $100 ÷ $2,000 = 0.05 BTC, a position worth $3,000
If BTC falls to the stop, the loss is $100 - the 1% chosen at the start. The unit test suite pins these exact figures.
