Borrow, short interest and the squeeze
short interest
The published count of a name's shares sold short, read with days-to-cover - short interest against average volume - and the borrow rate. Equities' closest thing to positioning data: it shows how crowded the short side is, and therefore how much forced buying a rally can conscript. The squeeze is that conscription running: shorts covering into rising prices, each exit fuelling the next.
